In summer the island is visited by many tourists from different regions of Russia and abroad. In picturesque bays, you can stand with a tent, the water in them is best warmed up to August (to +18 ° C). On the west coast in the middle of the island, 10 kilometers from the village of Khuzhir, is popular with tourists, Lake Hankhoi, close to finding the same tourist base. There are almost no dangerous animals and encephalitic ticks on the island. The territory of Olkhon is reserved and for residence here it is necessary to obtain permission in the island forestry.
Entry to the island is carried out by ferry crossing "MRS - Olkhon Island" from the village of Sakhurta. Currently, three ferries operate - a small "Dorozhnik" (takes 5-6 cars) and larger ones - "Olkhon gates" and "Semyon Batagayev", each receiving about 17 cars. In the summer, the crossing operates the entire light-day with an interval of about an hour. At the entrance to the ferry, many-hour queues of motorists gather. The average time for passing the queue is about 3 hours, however, in unforeseen situations (breakage of one of the ferries) can be delayed up to a day. In winter, instead of the ferry crossing, there is an ice road.
During the freeze-up period people are transported by a hovercraft on the air-cushion "Khivus".
Also in the summer, the island can be reached by the Irkutsk-Severobaikalsk (boat "Kometa", stopping on the island in the bay of Zagli) and Irkutsk-Ust-Barguzin ("Barguzin" motor ship, stopping on the island - on the beach to the south of Burkhan Cape ). Check it out!
